Barbara’s work explores the vicissitudes in life and happenings through conceptual principles and uses symbolism in her work.
Barbara has been awarded Winner of the Townsville 150th Celebration Portrait Award for her piece "I Remember".
Presentation at St James.
Today, Barbara’s life’s journey has led her to being an artist and art educator. However, her earlier careers were pharmacy dispensing and partner in a house painting business. Although all these steps seem diverse choices, they really weren’t as she has been passionate about them all. The learned aspects in each phase, led to creativity. For her, embedded in all these stages of life was a call to community, wholeness and connection, mental engagement and emotional energy – in a word, ‘passion’ – and not only for artistic pursuit - or even the making or teaching of art – but for life. For her a life lived passionately inspired creativity and the visual language of art in turn inspired passion for life. It’s a cyclical process and when creativity begins in passion, in feeling and seizing hold of what’s around and within us, it renews life with excitement and meaning: Art insists that what the eye sees, it sees in wonder. One could say all the arts are the vitamins of life and this approach to visual art certainly has her addicted to it.
