Children's Church

We are delighted to welcome children at St James Cathedral. Jesus tells us to “Let the children come to Him”.

Every Sunday, we provide age specific children’s activity bags with books, colouring in sheets, crosswords and ‘find a word’, which relate to the Bible Readings for that day. This encourages Family Worship and stimulates the children’s interest and participation during the service.  For younger children from 0-2 years, there is a carpeted crèche area which has child safe toys. Parents are able to hear the worship service from this area. The extra space on side aisles of the Cathedral, allow parents to walk around with babies in prams.

Children's Church Services

... generally occur on the 3rd Sunday of the month. These worship services are a delightful time when children are invited to participate in a themed activity, relating to the Bible readings. The children 3-11 years are invited to move to the children’s area, within the cathedral side areas, for group activities.  During the offertory, the children enjoy coming forward, to share their wonderfully created gifts of thanksgiving to God. This may be a song, painting, prayer, story or a craft activity.

Family Services

... occur 4 times a year, mostly on specific days like Palm Sunday, Pentecost, Father or Mothers Day, Advent and Christmas Eve. In these interactive services, all the family is invited to participate, through drama and skits, music, prayers, Bible readings, also older children and youth procession teams at the beginning and conclusion of the service.

The Children’s Church Team are passionate about ministry to children and bring various gifts and talents, including Bible story-telling, prayer cards, candle making, creative arts, craft, woodwork and music to enhance the children’s faith learning.
